Vintage and Antique Jewelry Trends Spotted at the JCK Show
June 28, 2015Last month, the JCK Show opened its doors in Las Vegas and quickly captured the attention of the media. Women's Wear Daily unearthed these "Best of the JCK Jewelry Show" trends, all of which have a sense of the vintage and/or antique about them.
1. Drop Earrings: Earrings with fluttery suspensions were spotted everywhere. Many of them featured diamonds and colored gemstones like aquamarines, emeralds, amethysts and garnets. The dangle aspect of drop earrings adds impact to the earlobe and garners attention, even when the wearer has long hair. The history of dangle earrings dates all the way back to the ancient Egyptians, when they were worn as a status symbol. Gemstones were introduced to drop earrings by Roman women during the second century AD. Almost two millennia later, today's women are still drawn to the same antique earring trends their ancient ancestors were.
2. Colored Stones in Combination: Green prasiolite and amethyst, black diamonds and rubies, smoky quartz and green amethyst, pink tourmaline and amethyst, aquamarine and brown diamond, peridot and garnet, citrine and amethyst, pink diamonds and pink sapphires, turquoise and sapphire, opal and agate--the color combinations at the JCK Show were striking and often unexpected. Multicolored pieces featuring all the colors of the rainbow were also prevalent.
3. Black Diamonds and Brown Diamonds: If the 2015 JCK Show is any indication, women are desiring more drama from their diamonds. Brown or chocolate diamonds as well as black diamonds fall under the fancy diamond category. Although brown diamonds occur naturally in abundance, gem-quality natural black diamonds are still rare and therefore expensive. Louis XVIII is one of the earliest documented purchasers of a black diamond.
4. Rose Gold - Whereas impact and drama were the keywords for diamonds and gemstones, metal trends at the JCK Show favored the soft romance of rose gold. Fire opals and diamonds; white diamonds; pink diamonds and pink sapphires; turquoises, diamonds and blue sapphires; and morganites and diamonds were just some of the gemstone combinations spotted in rose gold settings.
